Cordoba feasts

Córdoba, like every Spanish city, has a traditional feast calendar of all types very varied. Times in which the tourists that walked through its streets and corners can be amazed not only by the quality of the places but also by the joy and good humour of its people.

All those who like to see the Andalusian city of its best compliments, should come and visit in the moment when Córdoba has a lot more life,  either in its Easter week, in Las Cruces or in the Feria of our Lady De la Salud, just to put some examples.

Feasts and Events

The Córdobes calendar is filled with feasts and events month to month. Culture often floods the cities and plazas, theatres and dancehalls, giving a healthy and prosperous life to the city.

But the most awaited moments year after year by the Córdobeses and tourists that come around are the following:

All the second half of the month of February we can enjoy Córdoba carnival. In it, the chirigotas and song groups floods the streets of the city with music, and in the grand theatre a contest is held to choose the most original compositions.Feasts of Cordoba After this event they all go to the streets in a procession in which the whole city takes part.
During the Córdoba Easter week its residents commemorate the Passion of Christ showing their faith in an open manner. The streets are decorated and the processions through the old town leave a scent of incense and the dim lights of the candles of the Nazarenes. It is quite common to listen to a devotee in the form of a Saeta.

There are 35 brotherhood of Penance existing nowadays, and unlike other Spanish cities the Córdoba Easter week, is silent and collected. Within the most praised images by the town we have: El Rescatado, that leaves Palm Sunday and Easter Monday leaving from the church of San Lorenzo one of the most representative processions; Our Lady of Peace and Hope, Ash Wednesday from the convent of Saint Angel of the Capuchino fathers; Our Lady of Sufferings, that leaves on Holy Thursday from the Church of Saint Paul or the Virgin De los Dolores, that gathers many believers in her procession on Good Friday.

The month of the Feasts

But without doubt, the month in which we find the most important events is May. The warm weather arrives, the people get active and there is no better way of enjoying time in the streets like feasting the Cruses de Mayo.

One of the favourite activities of the cordobeses are the contests and festivals. In this month, you can attend a few of these: wine casting in May, the festival of the patios of May, Contests balconies and grilles or the May Feria.

All these, inimitable spectacles with which, not only knowing better the Córdoba culture, you will have great times.
